The pergola is much the same as a gazebo, with one
exception. Its roof is an open lattice to filter out some sun and to allow lots of
ventilation. The open lattice roof also works well as a trellis for a flowering
climbing plant that can be trained to grow up the posts and onto the roof. Within
a couple of years your pergola will support a natural, green, flowering canopy that
will make the pergola a wonderful space. Of course it can also be left plain if
that is what you prefer.
Approximately eight feet by nine feet in plan with
about seven feet minimum head room at the entrance, it allows plenty of room for
standing or sitting with garden chairs. Like the gazebo it is an attractive
outdoor room that can be placed anywhere in your backyard. This design is a wooden
structure.
Complete pergola plans include foundation plan, floor framing plan, floor
plan, three dimensional drawing showing the completed structure, elevations,
sections roof plan rafter, post and beam details, material list with quantities,
and plenty of construction notes and dimensions. Three full sheets of 18 by 24
inch prints of construction plans to build it yourself or contract it out to a
handyman.
