Trellis & Arbor - Item # 105

"I built this trellis/arbour project myself , (with some help from my wife) and chose cedar for the lumber. I slightly modified the foundations to suit local conditions. Town Hall approved the construction and design. For fasteners I chose yellow zinc coated screws. Using screws is a good choice as they are strong and, with a cordless electric drill, are easily and conveniently installed. Screw fastening also allows the structure to be easily adjusted during construction (if necessary) without damaging the lumber. I field measured all dimensions repeatedly throughout the project before cutting lumber and thoroughly thought out each step. Shingle moulding was used for trimming out. All cuts where made using a compound mitre saw. Members were sanded prior to securing. I brushed on a clear protective wood coating after construction. For spring planting we are considering climatis, climbing hydrangea, climbing roses, morning glories, and possibly Boston Ivy. We are also planting some beds and shrubs to develop our garden and make the yard even more inviting for ourselves and our B&B guests."
